Litchfield National Park: Your Day in the Bush

Litchfield National Park is a gem of the Northern Territory, offering plenty of places for a big adventure in the bush!

The whole park is about 1500km, offering heaps of hiking trails. Taking a walk around Litchfield National Park? There’s something different around every trail, despite its enormous size! Every corner you turn, you’ll see many different waterfalls, termite mounds and sandstone pillars which have formed into fascinating rock formations.

Heading into Litchfield National Park? For all visitors, the park requires a park pass allocated by the NT government – so make sure you have this secured before you head to the National Park!

Getting to Litchfield National Park from Darwin

If you’re getting to Litchfield National Park from Darwin by car, it’s only about an hour and a half away – depending on where you’re going in the National Park, of course!

Check which route you take, because some roads are only accessible via 4WD.

Unless you do a tour, getting there by car is the best way to get to the National Park. There are a couple of bus services that operate there, but you might be limited to where you can go and what you can see.

Go for a swim

There are plenty of places to go for a swim in the Litchfield National Park! Check out Buley Rockhole, Florence Falls and Surprise Creek Falls.

When it comes to swimming, make sure you check out the signs before you end up taking a plunge.

There are specific swimming holes that you can go into! Finish off your walk with a dip, and relax in Buley Swimhole for the rest of the day.

Go for a hike

There are lots of short walks in the area and you can go hiking along the trails! Our favourite shorter hike is the Florence Falls hike! This is a popular loop that is a moderate difficulty.

There are so many walks in this area, that you’ll likely be spoiled for choice where to go!

There are plenty of accommodation and dining options in the area, too! So, if you’re looking to take a rest and get a feed after all that adventuring, then Litchfield is your place!
