Does Darwin have good beaches?

Darwin has some of the best beaches in Australia. There are enough beaches that are perfect for families or bringing your dog.

If you are planning on spending a few hours at a beach, ensure you slip, slop, slap, seek, slide. Slip on protective clothing, slap on sunscreen (preferably at least 30+ SPF), and slap on a hat. Then seek some shade and slide on sunnies. There are only beaches in Darwin that are safe to swim in and that are patrolled during the dry season. The Darwin beaches can be great for dog walking, swimming, and fishing.

Mindil Beach

Mindil Beach is one of the most popular beaches in Darwin. It is the most popular during the dry season when the Mindil Beach Markets are running on Thursdays and Sundays. If you are visiting Mindil Beach when the markets are on, be sure to get to the beach early to watch the sunset. Trust us, it gets very packed on the beach to watch the sunset while you’re with family and friends. Mindil Beach is also one of the few beaches that are patrolled during the dry season.

Sunset Beach

Sunset Beach is at Fannie Bay and is also known as Fannie Bay Beach. You’ll find a lot of families around here throughout the day and in the evening for the sunset. Near the beach, there is a strip of restaurants and cafes. At the cafes, you can enjoy the beach and sunset while having an iced drink in the warm weather.

Nightcliff Beach

Nightcliff Beach is a great beach to watch the sunset in Darwin. Behind you, there is the Nightcliff foreshore. There are shared BBQ facilities, food trucks and areas for you to have a picnic. A lot of people come to Nightcliff Beach to spend time with family and friends. They also have some food or they walk along the beach.

Casuarina Beach

Casuarina Beach is one of the best beaches to walk your dog off the lead. This beach is also one of the beaches that are patrolled in the dry season. There are many access points to get onto the beach and there are toilets and fresh water available.

Lee Point Beach

Lee Point is another great beach to walk your dog off leash. You can only walk dogs in one area due to bird nesting. Keep a look out for the signs to know where you can walk your dog. You will find there are fewer people at this beach compared to other beaches in Darwin. You will find there are picnic tables around the area and toilets too.
