Five kids swimming in a pool

Leanyer Recreation Park

One of the best ways to spend a few hours with the family is at one of Darwin’s top waterparks.

Leanyer Recreation Park, also known as Leanyer Water Park, is a free Darwin attraction packed with activities, making it perfect for the whole family. Open throughout the year, the park can be closed on some public holidays or for maintenance during the school term.

Things to do

  • Water playground

The water playground is a hit with kids, featuring slides flowing water, and the excitement of a giant tipping bucket. Children love gathering around, eagerly waiting for the bucket to tip and release a cascade of water.

  • Water slides

The water park has 3 large slides, standing 14 metres tall and stretching over 100 meters long! Reaching the top involves climbing stairs, but the exhilarating ride down one of the slides makes it worth the effort.

The blue/yellow and purple slides allow one person at a time, except for smaller children can ride with an adult on the blue/yellow slide. The green slide requires an inflatable boat, which accommodates 2 people. Be sure to carry the inflatable boat up the stairs with you!

  • Swimming pool with children’s paddling pool

The swimming pool caters to everyone, while the children’s paddling pool is ideal for young ones to splash and play. The main pool is a popular spot for adults and kids alike when they are not enjoying the water slides or playground.

  • All-abilities dry playground

The dry, all-abilities playground is designed for children of all ages and abilities to play and learn together. It includes slides, climbing features, bridges, a wheelchair-accessible swing, and a roundabout, ensuring everyone can get involved.

  • Skate park

For skateboarding or scootering, the skate park provides a great space for both beginners and experienced skaters. Although there’s shade around the seating areas, the skate park itself can get hot during the day, so it is best to visit in the cooler evening hours. Keep in mind the skate park closes at 8pm.

  • Cycling path

The cycling path encircles the park, offering kids an enjoyable and safe space to ride their bikes. There are plenty of spaces to lock up the bike when it is not in use.

  • Picnic areas with BBQs

Ideal for birthdays or weekend outings, the picnic areas with the BBQ facilities are on a first-come, first-served basis. You can cook a delicious BBQ lunch and enjoy it under the shaded picnic areas with tables and chairs.
